Assistant Golf Course/Range Superintendent

Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

Direct Reports: Assigned Grounds Crew, Range Staff as directed

Job Overview

The Assistant Golf Course/Range Superintendent supports the Superintendent in managing the maintenance and care of the golf course, driving range, range tees, and landscaped areas. This position assists in scheduling, training, and supervising maintenance staff while ensuring high-quality playing conditions and a safe, efficient, and well-maintained facility.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the hiring, training, and daily supervision of maintenance and range staff.

  • Assist scheduling of outside maintenance staff - range and course labor.

  • Support the Superintendent in implementing turfgrass management programs for greens, tees, fairways, and range areas.

  • Execute daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance schedules for mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and equipment care.

  • Monitor turf conditions, irrigation performance, and overall course presentation; report issues promptly to the Superintendent.

  • Assist in maintaining all equipment and tools used in golf course and range operations; perform minor mechanical repairs as needed.

  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations for all staff.

  • Participate in fertilizer and pesticide applications as directed; maintain proper records in accordance with state regulations.

  • Assist in managing the range ball inventory and ensure that range operations (picking, cleaning, and stocking) are completed efficiently.

  • Support the Superintendent in maintaining facility appearance, including landscaping, parking areas, and snow removal when necessary.

  • Maintain a professional, positive, and team-oriented attitude when interacting with staff, members, and guests.

  • Serve as acting Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field – Preferred

  • 1–2 years of golf course or turf maintenance experience – Required

  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, turf equipment, and basic mechanical skills – Required

  • Missouri Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days) – Required

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and early mornings as needed

  • GCSAA membership – Preferred
