    Golf Course Irrigation Technician Assistant

    Location: Westborough Country Club 631 S. Berry Rd. St. Louis, MO 63122

    Employment Type: Full-Time and must be willing to work six days/week with one mandatory weekend day shift, holidays mandatory during prime season “April – October”

    About Us: Westborough Country Club is a private, 18-hole golf club located in the historic Kirkwood/Webster area of St. Louis, Missouri. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Irrigation Technician to join our grounds team. This role is essential in maintaining the quality and playability of the course through proper irrigation system care and daily assistance of Irrigation Technician and Golf Course Superintendent.

    Responsibilities:

    • Operate, inspect, and maintain the golf course irrigation system, including pumps, valves, controllers, and sprinkler heads.
    • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation issues such as leaks, breaks, clogs, and electrical malfunctions.
    • Monitor turf conditions and adjust irrigation schedules for optimal coverage and water conservation.
    • Assist with seasonal system startups, winterization, and upgrades.
    • Maintain accurate records of irrigation repairs, water usage, and system performance.
    • Collaborate with the superintendent and grounds crew to ensure course conditions meet high standards.

    Qualifications:

    • Previous experience with golf course or landscape irrigation systems preferred.
    • Working knowledge of irrigation hydraulics, electrical controls, and plumbing.
    • Ability to read and interpret irrigation maps and technical manuals.
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Valid driver’s license required.


    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with central irrigation systems and computerized controls.
    • Golf course maintenance or turf management background.
    • Knowledge of water conservation practices and sustainability methods.

    Equipment Manager

    Gateway National Golf Links:

    Gateway National Golf Links is an 18-hole, links-style, championship golf course designed by Keith Foster and opened in 1998.     As the Equipment/Shop Manager you will play a vital role in the daily operations of the golf course by maintaining and managing all golf course equipment, tools, and vehicles. You will also oversee the operation of the shop, including inventory management, procurement, and maintaining a safe organized environment. This position requires a detail-oriented, proactive individual with experience in managing golf course equipment and strong communication skills.

    We are seeking a team player that is positive and encouraging. The individual selected should be able to train employees in the proper operation of all equipment and procedures. Maintaining a clean, neat, and organized shop is a requirement of this position.

    General Purpose: Maintains the equipment, aids in agronomy staff management, operator/safety training, and ensures that the equipment is maintained to high standards.   

    Essential Duties: 

    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all golf course equipment including mowers, tractors, carts, specialty equipment, and other tools
    • Develop and implement regular maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and longevity of all equipment
    • Consistently provide a high quality of cut across the golf course to aid in exceptional playing surfaces.
    • Maintain accurate record of equipment repairs, usage and maintenance schedules.
    • Manage the daily operations of the shop, including inventory control and ordering of supplies and parts
    • Coordinate with Management to ensure equipment and supplies are available for daily operations.
    • Assist in budgeting and purchasing decisions related to equipment and the shop with the Superintendent.

    Education: Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience: Minimum of 3 years in equipment management, shop management or related field (golf course maintenance preferred)

    Technical skills: Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with experience in servicing/repairing golf course equipment, small engines, and vehicles

    Certificates/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License

    Communication skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with staff, golfers, and vendors.

    Organizational skills: Must be able to multi task, prioritize, and have strong attention to detail

    Position Overview

    What You’ll Do

    Water Management & Irrigation

    ● Monitor and manage course moisture levels using meters, weather data, and hand-watering

    ● Assist in troubleshooting and operating Toro irrigation systems

    ● Coordinate closely with the Irrigation Tech to maintain consistent system performance


    Agronomy & Turf Health

    ● Scout for turf issues and contribute to pest and disease management strategies

    ● Apply fertilizer and pesticide treatments using GPS-guided sprayers and maintaindetailed records

    ● Participate in the development and implementation of seasonal agronomic plans


    Facility & Equipment Oversight

    ● Ensure proper use and maintenance of turf equipment and tools

    Qualifications

    ● Certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
